tallboy design started out as a home passion project.
After leaving the corporate world behind, I began seeking out forgotten furniture wanting to give it (and myself) a new lease of life through creative design.
It combined my love for art and interior design with the strong urge to shut down the laptop, roll up my sleeves and go back to creating beautiful things in a physical form.
Bringing back what's been previously loved one piece at a time and giving it a second chance is not only good for our planet, but it also helps endorse a cultural shift in mindset from wasteful to valued.

TEAL FOR REAL- SIDEBOARD
Size: 120w X 40d X 70h
Originally part of a three piece set, this solid mango wood sideboard wanted to feel new again. With ample storage, she boasts three cupboards, double and single width, along with three drawers, perfect for your posh cutlery.
Coming from the South Asian tropics, mango wood is a hardwood which is only used only after completing it's fruit bearing lifespan. It's very strong and durable with a dense grain that really lends itself to refinishing.
For this new period of life, I decided to give her a brand new bold look. She was dressed in Peacock Suite, a durable matt finish paint, which draws out and elevates the beautiful, natural wood grain.
Along with the teal paint, it's the beautiful modern, soft gold and ribbed hardware, that really makes a statement.

MISS SUKI - TALLBOY
Size: 75cm wide, 109cm high, and 43cm deep
Meet Miss Suki. She’s a vintage piece built by Bath Cabinet Makers (BCM) with a ripe ol’ age of around 90-100!
To give her an up to date make over she was completely stripped back to her original state. Leaving the top, doors, and drawer fronts natural and treating them with a nourishing wood conditioner before applying a light rosewood stain to show of her glorious grain.
Loof, a delicious true black matt paint, was then used to accent the frame and feet and bring her up to date. To complete her look, the existing art deco hardware has been gilded in a beautiful Empire Gold.
She has plenty of storage space featuring a large cupboard up top, perfect for a bottle of your favourite tipple and some cocktail glasses, and two good sized drawers down below. All are lined with a textured geometric design paper in black and gold.

COUNTRY GIRL DOLLY - SIDEBOARD
Size: 151cm wide, 80cm high, and 48/29cm deep
Country Girl Maya. She’s a fine dependable vintage piece, built by Stag furniture makers, and likely to be in her mid 60's!
She's solid and aged really well but needed a bit of TLC to bring out more of her natural beauty before adding a contemporary twist. After stripping her back, she revealed a stunning solid oak top and drawers. After some nourishing conditioner, she received a deep application of clear wax oil to protect and enhance the original wood.
The sides and doors were painted in Steaming Green, to bring a touch of modernity. To complete her look, she's been adorned in Hoxton hardware in antique brass, with beautiful backplates.
She's make a great addition to any kitchen or dining room, with two cupboards with shelves, three large drawers that include a cutlery tray. All are lined with a textured rustic design paper in white and green.
